Job overview
This post is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Clinical Psychologist interested in developing further their skills in clinical neuropsychology and neurorehabilitation.
The position would suit someone newly qualified, or someone who brings transferable skills from another clinical psychology qualified role.
The post is based in Gravesham Community Hospital together with another Senior Clinical Psychologist and close to the Community Neurorehabilitation Team.
The post is primarily clinic-based, but travel to patients at home and to Care Home settings is sometimes required.
The job is diverse and rewarding, focused on developing patient-centred neuropsychological interventions for people with stroke and acquired brain injury and their families or carers living in the Dartford & Gravesend area.
The clinical work will include supporting people with their emotional adjustment to changes that have occurred and offering neuropsychological assessment.
Within the Kent Neuropsychology Service, there is a strong rehabilitation focus and clinicians have interests in a range of therapeutic models including Systemic models, Mindfulness, ACT, and CBT.

Main duties of the job

  • To be responsible for the systematic provision of Specialist Clinical Neuropsychology Services to stroke survivors and those with brain injury in the Dartford area working closely with the Community Neurorehabilitation team.
  • To undertake high-quality direct (assessment and therapeutic) and indirect (consultative, advisory, and evaluative) specialist psychological interventions in these services making autonomous clinical decisions about own professional practice.
  • To ensure the clinical effectiveness of own practice and of service delivery by undertaking research and development activities relevant to the service area.
  • The successful applicant will become part of a friendly neuropsychology Service and would be supported in their transition into the role and supervised by another experienced Clinical Psychologist who will also be available outside of formal supervision times to offer additional guidance when needed.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
  • To undertake a range of psychological therapeutic interventions, drawing on a range of psychological models and employing a range of modalities (individual, family and group) adapted and tailored to the needs of the individual, the context and ongoing evaluation of the outcomes of the intervention.
  • To be responsible for providing a specialist psychological perspective in the multi-disciplinary assessment of stroke survivors and those with brain injury and their families.
  • To contribute specialist psychological advice to the multi-disciplinary formulation of therapeutic/intervention plans, and to be involved in, or oversee specialist psychological aspects of their implementation in collaboration with other staff.
  • To undertake psychologically based risk assessment and risk management for relevant individuals and provide advice on the psychological aspects of risk to the multi-disciplinary team.
  • When appropriate to consult with and provide specialist psychological guidance to carers and families of stroke survivors and those with brain injury.
  • To exercise autonomous professional judgement and responsibility for the psychological management of cases on own case load.
The post holder must hold a full, valid, UK driving licence and have access to a car/vehicle to use for business purposes (unless you have a disability as defined by the Equality Act 2010).

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Doctorate In Clinical Psychology
  • HCPC Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Other relevant CPD or training in Neuropsychology
Skills and Clinincal Experience

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of working with people with neurological conditions or other relevant field such as Physical Health since qualification as clinical psychologist
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of working with people with Stroke or acquired brain injury .
  • Training in Supervision
